Local Landmark Being Renovated

I love it when a peice of local history is saved rather than demolished, so I was thrilled to read in the Springfield Newsleader that the Bartley-Decatur Neighborhood Center is going to be making new use of a historic home here in our city.

The century old building that will be renovated and used for the Neighborhood Center was known in the past as both the Springfield Colored Hospital and the Springfield Colored Welfare Home. The building is located at Calhoun Street and Sherman Avenue and was originally built around 1910 as a very elegant personal home. Most recently, the building is known for housing Kiddie Kove Day Care Center.
